Our Fleur de Light ornament is a one-of-a-kind textured metal art piece, the origins of which started with my hand-formed lanterns. Here's the back story:
Every time I think about my Fleur-de-Light lanterns, I feel that familiar pull of pride mixed with a pinch of melancholy. We didn’t just fabricate them...we hand-crafted them. Mike, an old-school sheet metal worker, formed them, sparks flying, hot bending them, and welding each of the lantern sides and cover till no seam showed.
The whole production studio smelled faintly of grinded steel and determination. We signed and numbered 1,000 of them, and every last one found a home. As that last lantern left my booth at the French Market, I remember thinking, “Well… that chapter just closed.”
But what most folks don’t know is that those well-loved lanterns left behind a quiet little legacy: we saved every one of the fleur de lis cutouts knowing they were too pretty and held too much meaning to recycle! To us they weren’t scraps—they were mini-art pieces!
Now you can own a piece of my French Market legacy. I hand-painted each ornament a unique color and gave it a textured finish, each one flecked with sparkly metal glitter and sealed under clearcoat. They feel nice in your hand because they're solid metal--fabricated here in NOLA. They measure 4.25" tall and wide, and they come with a wire ribbon for hanging. I signed the backs with “Laissez les bons temps rouler” and “New Orleans, Louisiana,” because I believe original art should have an origin story!
As a little lagniappe, I'll also send you a hand-turned 1.5" tall cedar stand so you can display your art piece year-round.
Grab a few ornaments for gift-giving all year long, and I'll mix and match the finishes in your package. Every one is beautiful...the pictures here don't do justice to how sparkly they are in real life!
Note: each ornament has one or two "dropout tabs", little notches where the sheet metal worker grabs onto the dropout section of metal after the shape has been cut. This is how you know it's real handwork, not stamped.
